Mission

To provide a safe and healthy environment for alcoholics and drug addicts to recover and re-enter society

About us

The Caldwell House is a private, 501(c)(3) non-profit facility.

The Caldwell House provides structure, responsibility and accountability which are key to a person's recovery. The residents are adult males only. Residents accepted to the Caldwell House are able to benefit from its therapeutic program as they learn how to re-enter society in a safe, structured, and healthy environment.

Intake procedures include reviewing assessments (which helps identify maladapted behavior or the presence of other conditions, which may cause susceptibility to abuse by self or others) to determine if the resident meets program admission criteria and going over treatment and aftercare plans to. Individuals who do not meet certain admission criteria may not be accepted to the Caldwell House.

An average stay at the Caldwell House is between 8 and 12 months. The House requires at least a 4-month commitment from residents and active involvement in the implementation of aftercare plans and employment.

History

Over three decades ago, a group of concerned citizens banded together to establish a halfway house for recovering alcoholics and drug addicts. Their vision was to provide them with a safe and healthy environment where they could work or their recovery and re-enter society. They were able to purchase the Kenham Lodge and the 10 acres surrounding it and named it the Caldwell House. Since then thousands have entered our doors and begun the recovery process, with many of them becoming productive, successful citizens of Caldwell County and the surrounding areas.

What we believe

  • Chemical dependency is a treatable disease of the body, mind, and spirit.

  • Alcoholics and drug addicts can completely recover from the obsession to use.

  • Recovery is an ongoing process and a strong foundation is built through working the Twelve Steps, strong sponsorship, and active engagement in the recovery community.

  • Successful recovery requires total abstinence from all mood/mind altering chemicals unless competently prescribed.

  • A spiritual experience is the ultimate result of the recovery process.

  • Engaging in a spiritual program of action while living in a sober community is the best way to maintain recovery.

12 step meetings

Recovery is an ongoing process, and a strong foundation is built through working the Twelve Steps. While living at the Caldwell House, residents attend a variety of 12-Step meetings. These meetings are held both on and off campus and are conducted along the guidelines of each program’s design. Local 12-Step meetings include Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, AlaFam, and Alanon. Residents are encouraged to begin the practice of utilizing these 12-Step meetings as a support network.

Community Service

In addition to providing a safe place for up to 26 recovering alcoholics/drug addicts, the Caldwell House freely provides other services to the community at large. We serve as a 24-hour hot line information center for families with substance abuse problems. The staff provides information, guidance and direction for those who might be in need of detox, treatment or 12-step meetings. Staff also takes programs to local schools, churches, and civic organizations when asked, and cooperate with vocational rehab, NC works, and mental health facilities. For more information about these services or if you have any questions regarding drug and alcohol addiction, please call and we will be happy to answer your questions.
